Claude Dufour
This arm is a reproduction of the oldest representation of coat of arms bearing the name Dufour: it is from Lyon origin;
It represents three cock heads of gold colour, on a blue field, separated in its midium by a gold field . Gold denotes generosity and blue shows loyalty, honesty and splendour.
These armorial bearings could be those of Claude Dufour. Originating in Orgelet or Lergueux, in the diocese of Besançon in Franche-Comté.
Claude Dufour arrives in Montreal where his name appears in the 1731 census. Then he lives on the Seigniory of Soulanges and married with Madeleine Leroux said Rousson, January 11, 1734, in the church of Lachine, in the West Island of Montreal.
In March 23 of the same year, in the Pierrefonds church, he makes baptize a first son. Then we find him on the Bizard Island, in 1743, when he seems to want to be established; he remains there until the sale of this concession on May 4, 1753. After that, Claude Dufour approaches the "city" since he is buried in the St-Laurent parish of Montreal, June 6, 1750.
His descents especially swarmed in the counties of Terrebonne and Labelle, into High Laurentides and until to Western Abitibi. Also in the vast area of Montreal .
Brother Gerard Dufour from Ottawa, has written Claude Dufour's history and genealogy. But our information is still incomplete about the ancestor and the descent of Claude Dufour.
