·         March 30, 1989:

The Dufour families of Quebec and North America gather in a family association. They ask a Provincial Charter (number 2642-6569), and obtain letters patent under the terms of the Law on the Companies (L.R.Q., chap. C-38, A. 218) Part III.

·         September 16, 1989:

The General Assembly (1100 people) for the Foundation of the Association. At the time of this general meeting of the members  that was held in Alma, Lake-St-Jean, Quebec,  the association adopted the letters patent and the charter which constituted it in a Corporation under the company name: Descendants of Gabriel-Robert Dufour Inc . Association functioned under this name until February 1997. The applicants of these Letters patent were: Jean-Paul Dufour (Jonquière), Huguette Dufour (Roberval), Majella Dufour (Chicoutimi). The registered office of the corporation was located at the 3923, de La Picardie, Jonquière, Qc, G7X 3X5. The rules of the corporation were also adopted. At paragraph 4.01, it is indicated that the board of directors is composed 

of thirteen (13) members elected for a 2 years mandate. In the parag. 9.02, it is adopted that all person carrying the Dufour name 

either affiliated with this name by his/her natural mother who had the name Dufour, can become regular member of Association.

·         September 16, 1989:

1st general assembly in Alma, Lake-St-Jean, Quebec: More than 1100 members of association, gathered for first once, the statutes and rules of the corporation voted. The board of directors, formed of thirteen members, was elected. 

The executive Board consisted of a president, 2 vice-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer and an archivist.

·         February 18, 1997: Formal request to change the denomination «The Descendants of Gabriel-Robert Dufour Inc.» 

       for «The Association of the Dufour Families of America, Inc.»

·         February 19, 1997:

In accordance with the opinion from the majority of the members, (brought up at the annual assembly) a request was made 

to the Inspector General of the Financial Institutions to change the company's name to  «The Association of the Dufour Families of America, Inc.». This change was made to expand the Dufour lineages and to reach a wider range of members from other Dufour families such as the descendants from Claude of Besançon, Pierre (known as Latour), Pierre (known as Bonvivant), Jean (known as Brind'Amour), Jean-Baptiste, Alfred, etc.
 

2- General Assemblies- Annual Gatherings

General assemblies: The Association Charter is governed by the Law on the Companies, L.R.Q., chap. C-38, A. 218, Left III. Consequently, it must obligatorily convene its members for at least one general assembly per year. Here is the list of these  Previous gatherings  and general meetings :

3- Definition of terms used   

3. Membership Card :

Since 2001, we now issue a laminated card to the members at the time of enrollment.

 The members will no longer be receiving a new card at the time of renewal. FAQ::
 

·        Q. What is the cost of membership ?

      R. Since 2015, The fees are::150,00$ ( life) -  50,00$ (5-year) - 15,00$ (1-year)

·        Q. How do I know when my renewal is due?
R. You can find out the date when you receive the newsletter. It is located on the envelop,

           on the upper right of the address label. You will see the year that your current membership expires : 

          Ex.:2006 means that your card is valid until December 31, 2006.

·        Q. How many members are part of the Association?
R. Based on an overview (2006), the number of members enlisted is 358. O

       Of this number, 10 cannot be traced, 102 have not renewed their membership fees (since 2004). 

       So, to be more accurate, the Association counts 246 active members with18 life members.

·        Q. What are the benefits of becoming a member?
R. I- you will receive our newsletter «Dufour» II- you are eligible to be elected to the Board of Directors III- 

      you have access to a bunch of information concerning your lineage IV- 

      you have the rights to vote at the assembly

·        Q. How can I help in the survival of the Association?
R. The life of the Association depends on its growth and the involvement of its members. 

      If one member recruits another "Dufour descendant" in her (his) family, 

      or her (his) neighborhood or at work, we would quickly multiply the number of members 

      and our Association would have better resources and its survival would be assured.
